For me, the greatest insult anyone can give me is for them to say, “Oh, I didn’t know you were a Christian.” I believe I should live my life in such a manner as to make it impossible for anyone not to know I’m a Christian. Yet, strangely enough, people wonder why their born-again, Spirit-filled church members aren't on fire for Christ and moving mountains. They have experienced conversion, yet they are afraid to testify about it. It’s because they don't know that they know what they know or how they know what they know; consequently, they lack confidence. We are confident not simply because we possess knowledge, but because we know we have knowledge. This explains the tepid testimonies of so many Christians. This is why we have the phenomenon of the “undercover Christian,”—Christians who don’t want people to know they are Christians.

Actually, witnessing for Christ should be as natural and as easy for a Christian as breathing. It is simply a matter of telling people what happened—what we witnessed; plus the Holy Spirit empowers us. Its like being on the witness stand and asked to tell the court exactly what happened that resulted in our becoming a Christian, and exactly what that means, and what difference has that made in our life. A personal testimony is a presentation of the Gospel.

Many Christians don't believe they understand the gospel well enough to explain it to anyone else, but we can use the scriptures that explain this miraculous spiritual rebirth. That's enough. We are equipped.

We will find that people are deeply impacted by a vivid description of a genuine conversion. When we describe it people can see it; they can feel it; they taste it; they vicariously experience it; they get it.

People become convicted upon hearing a heart wrenching testimony. It makes them think about their own lives—their trials, tribulations, aspirations, hurts, pains, sins and spiritual brokenness, as well as their inability to make sense of it all. They understand more of what we say than we often think they do and certainly more than they admit; and unbelievers become painfully aware of their own spiritual needs as a result of hearing this. They may then seek a solution; and, of course, that solution is Christ.

The objective of this book is to help Christians present the Good News about Jesus Christ clearly. Since every Christian has been born again he has experiential knowledge about a spiritual reality, namely conversion. He has been transformed into a new creature. He has a new nature. He no longer has a sinful nature. These things are real. These events actually occurred. Therefore, even if the person who has experienced these things doesn’t understand them, he can still tell people what happened.
